So, a long time ago (back in December), I posted that I got engaged. Due to finishing up law school and studying for the bar exam, we haven’t been able to do much in terms of planning (though we did do a few things, which I’ll discuss in a minute). So, now that I’ve graduated from law school and passed the bar (as has my fiancee), we are going to start getting into planning our wedding.
Our budget is $12,500 (excluding the honeymoon*). We are hoping to come in under that. D and I are hoping to pay for at least $8,000 of the total, with the rest being covered by our parents/families. One of the ways we are keeping costs down is to have several friends serve as vendors. We already have friends serving as DJ, photographer, videographer, and officiant. My aunt is also drawing an image that will be used on our Save the Dates and Invitations. Another way is that we (and some friends and family) are going to make our desserts. We are going to have several types of our favorite desserts rather than a wedding cake.
So far, we have done the following things:
- Booked our venue (for both ceremony & reception) — $1,000 deposit
- Bought my dress — $127.31
- Bought my shoes — $10.70
- Bought paper for all of our stationary — $5.32
I am currently gathering addresses for those we are going to invite. We have our tasting in early October. I’m going to start designing the Save the Date soon, and we hope to get those out in December. Our wedding is next October, and October in Asheville is a high tourist time because of the leaves changing, so we want to give people plenty of time to book their hotels.
*We aren’t including the cost of the honeymoon because we are doing a honeymoon registry and hope that the majority of it will be funded through the registry.
