I’m back

I’m back from vacation. I actually got back on Saturday afternoon, but I’ve been so busy getting unpacked and catching up on everything. I had a really fun time.
I flew down to Miami on Friday 5/1 and stayed in a hotel with my parents that night. On Saturday, we went to the port and waited to get on the ship. We were delayed getting on because they were disinfecting the ship. Once on board, we ate lunch and waited for our room to be ready. We went down to the dining room for dinner and met our tablemates…a couple from Maryland and 3 friends from Florida.
Sunday was our first day at sea. It was a really nice day. That night, it was the first dress up night. Monday, we docked in Jamaica. It was really pretty with all the trees. We mostly just walked around and did some shopping. Tuesday, we arrived at Grand Cayman. We had to tender in because the ships couldn’t dock. We had to be off the ship early to go on our excursion. We first went to a turtle farm. I got to hold a bunch of little turtles that were between 4-11 months old. They were so cute. After that, we went to this place called Hell. It’s an area that has rock formations that people think that is what Hell would look like. Then, we took a boat out to a sand bar in the ocean and swam with sting rays. It was pretty cool. We even got to feed them.
Wednesday was another day at sea. However, we found out that day that due to labor disputes causing riots in Honduras, we would be going to Belize instead. And that of course was after the change from Cozumel to Honduras due to the swine flu. Since I’d already been to Belize, I wasn’t as excited. Friday was our last day at sea (and on the ship). We then docked back in Miami on Saturday morning. We made it off the ship and through customs pretty easily, and then headed to the airport. I got home around 4. It was good to be home, see my cats, and sleep in my own bed.

Thanks for sharing with some details. Sounds amazing. I would love to swim with the sting rays. Someday…..
Glad everything went well and everyone is safe. Hope your kitties survived the loneliness.

I was on another Carnival cruise and was not allowed to go to Honduras because of labor strikes. I’ve searched the internet everywhere and have found no reference, news article or anything that talks about work or labor related strikes and incidents in Honduras.

ooh, sounds heavenly!! you didn’t get to choose where to sit to eat, really? I didn’t know they assigned you tables like at a wedding on cruises…
do you have pics? (esp. of Hell, i’m a geologist, would LOVE to see the rock formations…)
I’m glad you had a good time!

All the pictures from the excursion are on a regular camera that needs to be developed. So I don’t know when they will be available (my Mom has them).
In the mean time, here are two links with information and pictures.

You can ask to sit by yourself or with others randomly (they can’t guarantee they’ll grant your request). If you travel with a party, you’ll all sit together. We usually like to sit with others so that we get to know some people. We’ve never been stuck with crummy people.

Eric…were you on the group that went to Honduras on Wednesday? They told us that another ship ended up leaving Honduras on Weds. due to the protests.
